Are you training for you or someone else?

Are you training for you, or someone else? Yes this really does happen, and it's more common than you think. It's also a major reason why people don't get results, despite relentless training.
People all too often get forced into training through bullying, constant negative comments and pressure. This is only a recipe for failure right from the start.
How do we know, because we've come across it so many times. It's actually one of the main questions we ask people when they first come in for a personal training consultation. Who are you doing this for?
It's very easy to notice someone who is doing it for someone else, they have a complete lack of commitment to the programme, they constantly cheat, and they have a general lack of enthusiasm for everything you try to do for them. In the early days as a trainer, I came across this very often. When I started asking people my very direct question, it nipped it in the bud immediately.
Being in the best shape of your life, should never be about someone else, it should always be about you. We are always way more successful at things that we enjoy. Don't you find that you put 110% effort into the things that always benefit you, and you don't really have to put that much effort into them?
It's never a surprise that people get in shape very quickly, when they're doing it for all the right reasons. If you're the one who says you've been trying to get in shape for a long time and it's not happened yet, maybe you need to ask yourself if you're doing it for you, or for someone else.
